I approached Meltex and was awarded the agency
under the name of ‘Meltex’, on
the 2nd of October 1982
we started Meltex UK Ltd. The company went from
strength to strength with market share growing in Product Assembly,
Coating, Non-Woven, Bookbinding etc., from the first year at £60k to
nearly £2.5 million in 1989.
In late 1989 we were advised by Meltex Germany that they had sold out to
the Nordson Corporation, in due time Nordson would contact us to
negotiate the integration into Nordson, in September 1990 we were
integrated into Nordson (UK), so from my position as M.D. of Meltex to
Special Markets Manager for Nordson, this entailed the continuation of
exactly what I was doing in the past in the same market areas. Some
years later Nordson acquired Walcom (liquid Adhesives PVA rather than
Hot melt) in the Netherlands and responsibility for the sales force also
came under my management, new areas of expertise were developed i.e.
component moulding using Polyamide, the rise of moisture curing PU hot
melt, opened up a whole new area in Product Assembly.
In 1999 I was requested to take on the position of European Market
Manager for the recently acquired UV division of Nordson (ACT Spectral),
this I did for the last four years till my retirement in May of 2004.
Activities with the British Adhesives & Sealants Association (BASA)
Since
our integration with Nordson I had been involved with BASA, in 1998 I
was asked to Chair the Communications Committee, this was interesting
and varied and involved the event organisation for the Association, in
2000 I was voted on to the Council of BASA and continued with
Communications.
At the AGM in 2002 I was appointed Vice
Chairman, this also involved Chairing the Business Steering Committee
and the following year I took over as Chairman of the Association. As
Chairman of BASA, I also sat on the Council of FEICA the European
Adhesive Association. On my retirement from Nordson I had to step down
as Chairman of BASA.
